A native Washita Co resident leaves the country for Tenn: Goodbye to all my class-mates, friends and relatives from Canute, Dill Ci,ty, Bums Flat and Cordell!
Believe it or not, I’m related to some of the Kilhoffers, Chervenk:a’s, Lonebergers, Thionetts, and Criders!
I’m going back to Chattanooga, Tenn where I attended college in the ‘60s. My 2 grandsons go to school there, my 2 sons work there, & one of my daughters is in Nashville. I’m 77, and I find I need more help as time goes on. I was born in Elk City & raised at Canute. I hate to leave home, but it’s time.
I got Covid like many of you - it was rough, and turned into Long Covid- June to December. Then in January I had a Stroke, brought on by Covid, the doctor said. How humiliating to be on the floor & not be able to get up! How much I appreciated all the staff at the hospital.
Most all my close family inherited a heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation, where the heartbeat is incomplete.
A person with A-fib is about 5 times more likely to have a stroke. Covid just made it more likely! The fix is not difficult; I should have done it long ago. Since I probably wouldn’t make it thru another stroke, I’m scheduling to get my heart taken care of.
If you have A-fib, please see a doctor about what can be done to fix yours! My stroke didn’t hurt - it just turned me into a cripple.
I’ll still have my same phone number: 580-472-3472, so call me if you know me.
I’ve enjoyed writing short articles for the paper. Some of my favorite stories have been about the old, Spanish Fort south of Canute. Most folks think it was on my childhood farm, but I’ve found it near St. Francis Catholic Church.
Call me, and we’ll talk about it! God bless you all, and “Happy Trails”, as Roy & Dale said, “until we meet again!” Ertis Johnson
