The Dill Work and Play OHCE met June 11, 2024, for a regular meeting. June is do Your Own Thing, and we chose to eat out at Fred’s in Elk City. We met at 12:30 and enjoyed lunch. Jane Shull called the meeting to order and roll was called with 4 answering with “What have or do you plan to do this Summer?” Thought of the Day was each member present gave a thought of as growing up what Patriotic actions were observed in school. We also discussed things we do now to show our Patriotism. We also remembered and honored several who served our country. Wilma’s husband served in World War II and was on the ship that took part in the surrender of the war. David Gathright was personally involved and it is quite a story. The other husbands were veterans which served in the 60s and have stories of their own.
Lowayne Piercey presented the minutes from the May meeting. Lowayne gave a 4-H report: Cup Cake Wars were held May 21, at the County Fair Grounds and an attractive jewelry bag was made by 4-H members June 14, at the OSU Office.
Wilma Gathright’s children took a video of her preparing Apricot Jam, and they hope to take more of her doing her various crafts. We thought this to be a great idea and wished we had videos of our family at various times.
Report was given recognizing OHCE Week. Jane and Lowayne remembered several activities during the week. Each OHCE member and regular guest attended worships, sent cards and letters, made calls, visited friends and family, did something kind, attend birthday parties and graduations, OHCE meetings, read books, traveled around Oklahoma, gave donation to Burns Flat and Dill City Fire Departments, gave a Scholarship to Sheridan Piercey and many more actives. The District Lesson Leaders was attended and 3 members attended, Jane, Emma, and Lowayne. It was a very enjoyable week and all Dill Work and Play members plus regular guests took part. Thank you note was read from Sheridan Piercey for the graduation scholarship. Thank you and recognition notes for donations were read from Burns Flat and Dill City Fire Departments. Report was given on the cooking school presented to elementary school children at the First Baptist Church in Cordell. Kristy Spalding presented the cooking classes along with safety and healthy eating habits. Jane and Lowayne assisted with brake out groups, along with other OHCE members and helpers.
Program for the day was discussion of the upcoming election. All plan to vote, or assist with voting, Jane will work at the Election Board. OHCE members attended the meet the candidates June 4 at Cordell. There were several county individuals running as candidates. We all expressed the importance of being involved with our government. Jane showed her rings of Turquoise made by the Navajo for Cultural Arts. They are very beautiful. July meeting will be changed to the third week in July due to the State meeting being on our regular meeting date. Emma and Lowayne plan to attend the State Meeting. The Dill Work and Play July meeting will be held July 16, at 1:30 in the Community Center in Dill City. The meeting was dismissed with the Lord’s Prayer and more visiting was enjoyed.
