WILLING WORKERS
Feb. 2, 2023 - We met at Oma June Pitzer's home at 11:00. Glenna Rose was host. We had lunch and visited. Amber called meeting to order at 11:50. We started wit the Flag Salute and recited the County creed. Sherry Hall gave devotional: Hebrews 13:5-6. Thought of the day was read by Lois Johnson: 'How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?' Roll call: 'Do you use artificial sweeteners? How do you use them?'
Lona Horton read minutes from last month. Lois Johnson made motion to accept as read. Sherry Hall seconded. Treasurer report gave by Oma June. Amber Hall gave lesson on sweeteners. Most of us plan to attend County meeting on Feb. 16, 2023 in Cordell. A few plan to attend painting class for 'barn painting'. We plan to celebrate Dee, Jan. and Feb. birthdays on Feb. 27 at Dill City Senior Citizens Center. Verena Misener will get dates to help the 4-H Club in our area. Feb. 5, we met at First Baptist Church in Foss to teach children to sew. We had fun and food. We had 12 children and eight adults. Even the boys enjoyed sewing. They got to take their pillows home.
We are looking for other projects to help our community.
March 2, 2023 - We met at Baptist Church in Foss at 11:00 am. Verena Misener was host. Amber Hall called meeting to order at 11:05. We had Flag Salute, recited County creed. Lois Johnson gave thought of the day: 'Friends are like starts, you don't know they are there.' Sherry Hall have verse: Matthew 6'25-34. Roll call: 'What have you cooked in foil?' Eleven members present, no guests. Minutes from last meeting were read by Lona Horton. Lois Johnson made motion to accept, Renae Dodson seconded. Treasurer report gave by Oma June Pitzer. Four plan to attend Quartz meeting on March 21. We will be working with 4-H kids, teaching them to sew on March 8. We are planning to have a tea party for 4-H month in May. We will combine birthday luncheons two months together. Next meeting will be April 6, with Rebecca S. hosting.
MODERN HOMEMAKERS
Modern Homemakers met at the OSU Extension Center in Cordell on February 6, 2023 at 6:30 pm. After members enjoyed a dessert, Vickie Foster called a meeting to order with a flag salute and called roll, asking members if they use a sugar substitute. Members in attendance were Vickie Foster, Brenda Bonham, Becky Sander, Karen Turner, Paula Stafford, Becky Snow, Linda Miller, Phyllis Booth, and Debbie Kern. Guest was Glenda Gross. Karen Wedel gave the thought of the evening. Becky Sander read the minutes from January 2023 meeting. Minutes were approved as read. Karen Turner presented the Treasurer's Report.
Becky Snow read the Parliamentarian Point - Presidential Duties. The business of the meeting was discussion of activities that will be taken place at the 2023 West District OHCE Meeting (South Region). Monday, March 20, 2023 at 7pm, and Tuesday March 21, 2023 8:30 am. Also discussed was the Washita County Junior Livestock Show. Leader Lesson Day that was scheduled for January 31, 2023 has been postponed until February 16, 2023 at Washita County Activity Center Fairgrounds 10am - 2pm. There will be a 3 leader lessons, February's lesson; Artificial Sweeteners, March's lesson; Foil Packet Meals, and April's lesson; Medical Identity Theft. Washita County OHCE County Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Washita Co. OSU Extension Office.

March 29 , 2023 is the day that has been set aside as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This is the 50th anniversary of the last soldiers to leave Viet Nam in 1973.
Washita Chapter NSDAR will be conducting a ceremony at the Roger Mills Courthouse acknowledging this day with the raising of the Viet Nam Flag.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and the public is invited to attend and encouraged by the chapter to fly their U.S. flag in honor of those who served in the Vietnam War and thank veterans and others that also made scarifies during this time.
WASHITA COUNTY FARM BUREAU
The Washita County Farm Bureau met February 23, for a regular meeting. The meeting began with a meal furnished by FB made by Pizza by the Slice 183 at 6:00 in the FB Office. The meeting opened with a prayer and after the meal the women convened to open the Women's Committee meeting. Jordan Cook called the meeting with the US and OK Flag Salutes. Reports began with a Lowayne Piercey giving the program outline of the State Leadership Conference. The Piercey's attended the meeting held March 21. he program began with a welcome and Farm Bureau business from President Rodd Moesel. Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell, gave an update on OK Tourism and Business with an update on OK activity. Todd Lamb, former Lieutenant Governor gave brake down on question 820 and the dangers in the bill if it should pass. The vote will be March 7 to have Marijuana for recreation. Advise was given to vote no. Blayne Arthur, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture, gave Ag up date and information on the Farm Bill. Lunch was enjoyed. Governor Kevin Stitt, welcomed the Farm Bureau and proclaimed Oklahoma Farm Bureau Week. Senator Chris Kidd, Senate Ag Committee, and Representative Dell Kerbs gave views on bills being set before the Congress. Mike Fina, Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board chairman, gave facts on the State Broadband coming to Oklahoma and it should reach all rural OK. Andy Evans, from the Oklahoma Public School Resource Center, gave facts on School funding, Windmills, and the Advalorem Tax and how it will affect land owners and rural residents. Tom Cole, Congressman US Congressman House Rules Committee chairman, gave interesting information concerning how legislation works and the good people we have serving Oklahoma. Dr Kayse Shrum, Oklahoma State University president, sent a representative to Up date happenings at the OSU University. OSU is opening a new Vet School and many more activities to keep OK in line with the world. The meeting ended with an awards dinner. Jordan Cook reported on the Skill-A-Thon and the rules are being changed to fit the State OYE Expo so the Washita County young people will be better informed on the state contest. The County Skill-A-Thon will be held at the JR Livestock Show February 26. Prizes will be a 1st a Belt Buckle, fashioned for the contest, 2~ $50, and 3rd $25. The Cook/Davis Bull Sale will be March 4 at the Pens on the farm. Cook also announced Farm Bureau Collegiate Day at the Capitol will be March 8 and Farm Bureau Day at the Capitol will be March 11. Farm Bureau Farm/ City Day at the Capitol will be March 21. The Cooks traveled to Washington DC and served on the IAC Committee representing Washita County.
The Washita County JR Livestock Show will be February 26 thru 28 and the Poster and Photo Contest will be February 27. The Farm bureau will present each entry with a two-dollar bill. The Johnsons and Harpers will give Lambing education classes to young people and the Johnsons will provide a meal at church.
The Harpers now have the license to give health test for animals to go across state lines as well as International Travel. They gave a permit for a cat to go to Brazil this month. The Harpers will host the OK Cattleman's Association for the local Washita County meeting April 15. There will be food, music, and information.
The Cooks and the Pierceys attended the District Cattleman's meeting in Lawton, February 7. The Cooks attended the State Cattleman's Resolutions meeting in OKC in February, and the National Cattleman's convention in New Orleans. The Pecks attended and worked at several county fairs and helped young people with projects. The State question 820 was discussed and members decided the best vote would be NO. Washita County Farm Bureau will sponsor 4-H and FFA members or young people with parent that are a member of Farm Bureau wanting to join Farm Bureau with the young person paying $5.00 and Farm Bureau wave the $30 for a time period of a week. Young people can ask their leader or call the Cordell Farm Bureau office. Three $500 scholarships From the Washita County Farm Bureau will be given this year: Aubbri Johnston, from Cordell, Jacob Baker, from Sentinel, and Parker Jacks from Canute.
DILL WORK AND PLAY OHCE
The Dill work and Play OHCE met February 16, 2023 at the Washita County Fairgrounds at 10:00 for a Multi-County Meeting for Leader Lesson Workshops. Workshops were presented February Lesson: Artificial Sweeteners, March Lesson: Foil Packet Meals, April Lesson: Medical Identity Theft. Lunch was served using the Foil Packet Meals presented in the workshop. The Workshops were presented by Kristy Spalding, Washita County, Cheryl, Greer County, and Megan Monteith, Stephens County.
Reports were County Council will be held February 23, at 2:00 and stuff goody bags at 3:00. Members present were Emma Bingham, Vickie Werner, and Lowayne Piercey. The Dill Work and Play OHCE met again February 23, 2023 at the Washita Co. OSU Extension Office for the Washita County OHCE County Council. The County Council started with refreshments. Refreshments were provided by members from each county club.
Lowayne Piercey called the meeting to order and welcomed all present. Lois Johnson led the US Flag Salute. Jane Shull gave a treasures report. Business was FCS Ambassadors meeting will be held April 13 and a cost of $25, and everyone is welcome. Kristy Spalding announced her daughter will be getting married in April. A poster contest will be held at the West District South Region OHCE meeting and Washita County voted to participate. Washita County will be a hostess at the West District South Region OHCE Meeting and members volunteered to work at various areas during the meeting. Perfect Attendance was awarded: Dill Work and Play, Jane Shull and Lowayne Piercey: Modern homemakers, Vickie Foster: Willing Workers: Amber Hall, Lona Horton, Lois Johnson, and Oma June Pitzer. Club Participation was presented to Dill Work and Play, Modern Homemakers, and Willing Workers. Twenty dollars was given to each club for their work.
Awards were given for Cultural Enrichment and Family Issues Awards Books to Lowayne Pierce. Award for Photography was given to Jane Shull. Jane Shull was recognized as Washita County Member of the Year and Lowayne Piercey as Heart of OHCE. The Awards will be entered in the District Contest. The meeting was dismissed and members stuffed Goody Bags. Members present from Dill Work and Play were Jane Shull, Emma Bingham, Anna Prickett, Wilma Gathright, Lowayne Piercey and guest Anita Clayton and Sue Huddleson. The Dill Work and Play met for their February meeting following the meeting. Jane Shull called the meeting to order and Anna Prickett led the song K-K-K-katy. Vickie Werner led the pledge to US Flag. Emma Bingham gave the devotional: Bread of Life. Emma called roll with 6 members and 2 guest answering with Do you use sugar substitute? Lowayne Piercey gave a report: Frank Lucas held a Town Meeting in Cordell and the Pierceys attended. Lowayne also gave a 4-H report, Washita County 4-H held the County Share-the-Fun and had a very good attendance. There were 21 entries. Upcoming events were discussed: Lowayne reported the JR Livestock Show will be February 26 thru 28 and the 4-H and FFA Poster/Photo Contest will be held Monday the 27, and the Skill-AThon will be held the 26 at the Livestock Show. Jane encouraged everyone to start planning for the County Fair August 23 thru 26. Jane talked about the OHCE District meeting March 20 and 21. The next 3 Leaders Lessons will be held April 26 in Hobart. Emma gave the program over sugar substitutes. Cultural Art items were shown by Lowayne 2 rings, one: 37 year anniversary and a birth stone ring bought in San Frisco years ago. Door prize was given by Emma and won by Vickie Warner. Emma Bingham served refreshments to Jane Shull, Anna Prickett, Vickie Werner, Wilma Gathright, Lowayne Piercey and guest Sue Huddleson and Anita Clayton.
