The Cordell Blue Devils dropped their second game in as many weeks last Friday at Watonga. The injury beset Blue Devils went head-to-head with a big, physical Eagles team and came up on the short end of a 45-16 scoreboard.

The Blue Devils started the game down nine starters from the season’s starting roster, having lost two players in the scrimmage at Apache and another seven in the season opener against Mooreland. Head coach Zane Trammell said he was proud of his team’s effort and hopes to see some of his injured young men back for this week’s game at home against Rush Springs.

“Watonga is a big and physical team that is going to win a lot of games,” he said. “We just couldn’t match their level of size, strength, and physicality. Regardless of the situation, we had boys that played their hearts out. I was proud that we came out in the second half and were able to get a few stops and get in the end zone a couple of times. I told the boys at the half that we would most likely be seeing their second group and that we really need to go out and end the game with some positives, because in reality we were playing with our second group due to injuries. I’m hoping to get a few of our boys back this week.”

The Blue Devils kick off at 7:00 p.m. Friday against Rush Springs in Blue Devil Stadium.
