Cordell Blue Devils Fall To Frederick Bombers

For two and a half quarters the Cordell Blue Devils held their own against Frederick, but a controversial score and bevy of fumbles broke open a tight 13-6 game ending in a 47-6 road loss to the Bombers on the road Friday night.

"We played really well and fought out there on defense, but I think when they scored that long run it let the wind out of our sails," coach Dustin Beasley said. "I was proud of the way we fought, and we didn't quit. I will take that fight every time. We have got to get better. We have a big game at home next week.”

Home Country

By Slim Randles

Mrs. Doc watched the dancers swirl around the cleared hardwood floor of the Legion hall, and smiled to see her husband, Doc, waltzing with Ardis Fisher. But Mrs. Doc was never one to sit out a waltz, so she looked around at the menu.

Over in the corner, smiling and tapping his foot, was Pop Walker. Pop and several other residents of the Rest of Your Life retirement home were there to enjoy the dance and celebrate the end of summer. Pop has a hard time with his memory, these days, but always forgets things with a smile.

A Word From The Superintendent

By Brad Overton

As we fly through this school year, I would like to take a few minutes to update you on a new program within our school system. This program deals with the safety and security of our students which we take very seriously.

The safety and security of our students is an issue in which we spend a lot of time and resources. There are many aspects to student safety; these include access to our buildings, video cameras and the overall awareness of our students and faculty. I feel that our best “tool” in keeping our students safe and secure is the awareness of our students. They see and hear so much.

Thanks to all the City employees who have worked very hard to keep our water flowing. If you haven’t signed up for the text alerts from the City, you can do that at the City’s website. Go to www.cityofcordell.com and click on the “Subscribe” button on the right side of the page.

What do you do when it is pouring rain outside?

What do you do when it is pouring rain outside? If you are Cordell Police Officer Trevor Stewart you send in the Cordell Elementary students who are the crossing guards and take on the duty yourself! Stewart spent Monday and Tuesday mornings making sure all Cordell students got inside safely. A regular at the elementary in the morning, reports say he is always happy, smiling, and makes a point to greet every child. Thank you, Officer Stewart!
