Home Country

By Slim Randles

Ran into Herb Collins the other day down by the school. He volunteers there, from time to time, helping kids with their math homework, and trying to recruit future members of The Great World of Business.

He loved business, back in the days when he lived in the city and ran the pawn shop. For years now, ever since he hung up his jeweler’s loupe, he’s told us that there was an excitement to making the right deal.

Top Dental Care Products for Seniors

Dear Savvy Senior,

I have arthritis in my hands that affects my grip strength and dexterity and makes brushing my teeth difficult. I’ve read that electric powered toothbrushes help make the job easier. Can you make any recommendations on what to get? Still Smiling

Dear Still,

For seniors who suffer from arthritis or have other hand weaknesses, an electric toothbrush is a great solution to keep your teeth clean. At the push of a button, an electric toothbrush will do everything but shake, rattle and roll to do the cleaning for you, and most come with a wide handle and rubberized grip that make them easier and more comfortable to hold on to.

Cordell Blue Devils Fall To Frederick Bombers

For two and a half quarters the Cordell Blue Devils held their own against Frederick, but a controversial score and bevy of fumbles broke open a tight 13-6 game ending in a 47-6 road loss to the Bombers on the road Friday night.

"We played really well and fought out there on defense, but I think when they scored that long run it let the wind out of our sails," coach Dustin Beasley said. "I was proud of the way we fought, and we didn't quit. I will take that fight every time. We have got to get better. We have a big game at home next week.”

Home Country

By Slim Randles

Mrs. Doc watched the dancers swirl around the cleared hardwood floor of the Legion hall, and smiled to see her husband, Doc, waltzing with Ardis Fisher. But Mrs. Doc was never one to sit out a waltz, so she looked around at the menu.

Over in the corner, smiling and tapping his foot, was Pop Walker. Pop and several other residents of the Rest of Your Life retirement home were there to enjoy the dance and celebrate the end of summer. Pop has a hard time with his memory, these days, but always forgets things with a smile.
