Alton G. "Nick" Nicholson

Alton G. “Nick” Nicholson

 

Alton G. “Nick” Nicholson, 73, of Cordell, Oklahoma passed away on December 14th, 2017 at his home. He was born on April 15th, 1944 to Corbett and Eva Nicholson in Warren, Arkansas. 

Nick came to western Oklahoma in 1964 when he was in the Airforce and stationed in Burns Flat.

Nick graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1974 with a double major in Accounting and Business. 

He farmed and worked for over forty years for Washita County driving a road grader. Since retiring he has enjoyed tinkering on lawn mowers, walking for his health, and watching hummingbirds. 

Since April of 2016, the joy and passion of his life was his grandaughter, Temperance. He was a proud father, an even prouder grandfather and wonderful friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Viola Dorothy Kupka

Viola Dorothy Kupka, 83, of Canute, Oklahoma, was born on August 7, 1934 in Calumet, Oklahoma to Dewey Laws and Mary Elizabeth (Brooks) Nix. She went to walk with her Savior in heaven on January 11, 2018 the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, Oklahoma. Viola married Gerald W. Kupka on June 23, 1953 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Canute, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2011. Along with her husband she owned and operated Kupka Texaco Station in Canute for over twenty years. She also worked at the local tag agency for twenty-four years. Viola enjoyed cooking, taking care of her plants and spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Her family was her life and she savored every moment with them. She was an active member of the Saint Matthew Catholic Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Treva Roberta Williams

Treva Roberta Williams, of Cordell, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, in Clinton, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. Treva was born April 27, 1937, to Robert and Mary (Martin) Isbell. She was raised in Cordell and attended Cordell schools. She married Jack Williams on October 1, 1954, in Cordell and to this union two children were born. Treva worked many years at the Farmers National Bank in Cordell and the Washita County Extension Center, retiring in the early eighties. She enjoyed playing the piano and loved being involved in her church. Treva volunteered her time to help others when she was able. She really enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. She married Curtis Maloy September 13, 1979, in Cordell and became a loving stepmother to Curtis' son, Curt. Treva was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Isbell and brother Ortiz Isbell in 1955.

Donna Lee Harbuck

Donna Lee Mitchell Harbuck was born June 17, 1935 in Geary, Oklahoma to Hazel Parrish and W.W. Mitchell. Donna attended high school in Sickles, Oklahoma. Soon after she met J.W. Harbuck and they were married on December 27, 1955. When J.W. was discharged from the army, they moved to Colorado, where they worked for a while then moved to Hydro, Oklahoma. They later moved to Borger, Texas before finally ending up in Dill City, Oklahoma in 1962 and have been there ever since. Donna worked for M.O.D.A. and the Dill City School System for 13 years. She quit working to take care of their grandson, Taylor Harbuck, she also worked at the First Baptist Church for 40 years. Survivors include her husband, J.W. Harbuck of the home, Sons: Ricky Harbuck of Dill City, Oklahoma, Mitchell Harbuck of Dill City, Oklahoma, David Harbuck and his wife Nancy of Dill City, Oklahoma, and Grandson: Taylor Harbuck of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Kathleen “Kat” (Beech) Kenimer

Kathleen “Kat” (Beech) Kenimer, of Cordell, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Cordell, Oklahoma at the age of 94. Kat was born October 27, 1923, in Port, Oklahoma to John J. and Callie (Powers) Beech. In 1932, as a child she moved with her family to a farm southeast of Cordell. Kat attended Cordell High School and graduated in 1942. While in high school she played basketball on the Lady Blue Devils 1941 state semifinalist team and the 1942 state champion team. Kat’s graduating class went to Galveston Beach for their senior trip, but to get there they all loaded up in a make shift bus which was an open top cattle truck. Kat was raised on the farm in a loving family with her six brothers and a sister. At a young age she learned how to work hard and the art of “Good Ole Home Cooking” which she carried throughout her life.

Kelsie Claude Watkins

lMemorial Service for “Claude” Watkins, 74, Cordell resident was be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 30, 2017 in the First Baptist Church of Cordell, officiated by Pastor R.B. Mathis and Pastor Terrell Ronberg. Burial Followed at a later date in the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Kelsie Claude Watkins was born July 21, 1943 in Mooreland Oklahoma and passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma. Claude was raised in the Fort Supply, Oklahoma area and graduated from Fort Supply High School in 1961. He lived in Clinton before marrying Janice Schmidt on September 29, 1983 in Cordell. They have made Cordell their home. He was employed with A & R Freight Line as well as farming. He retired in 2014. He was a member of Cordell’s First Baptist Church and his hobbies were his work and spending his time K e l s i e Claude Watkins farming.

Jackie Ringo

Howe- Jackie was born Saturday, September 6, 1952 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to parents Rex and Dovie (Blanton) Ringo. He passed from this life on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in his home at the age of 65. Jackie attended and graduated high school in Dill City, Oklahoma in 1970. After graduation, he furthered his education by attending an electronics training in Oklahoma City. He married the love of his life, Susan Leonard, in Oklahoma City on July 20, 1973. Jackie worked as a computer technician for 44 years, working for Texas Instruments and later Raytheon. Jackie enjoyed playing softball and working with his hands in the outdoors. Jackie and Susan loved to travel and enjoyed going to the activities of their friends’ children. He sang in a gospel quartet and was affiliated with the Texoma Chord Ringers Barbershop Chorus in Sherman. Jackie and Susan have been members of Center St. Church of Christ for forty-four years.

Dorothy Anna Opitz Collier

Dorothy Anna Opitz Collier, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on December 25, 2017, in Cordell, Oklahoma, at the Cordell Christian Home. She was born June 28, 1929, south of Hinton, Oklahoma, on the Opitz Farm. She was preceded in death by her father Rudolf Opitz, her mother Dora Constien Opitz, two brothers, Alfred and George Opitz, and her husband of 28 years, Al Collier. Her survivors include her son, Lester Max Worsham and his wife Karen of Cresent Oklahoma, two daughters, Virginia Lee Robison and her husband Stanley of Rocky Oklahoma and Sandra Kay Pignotti and her husband Mike of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Two sisters, Agnes Stehr of Clinton, Oklahoma and Eunice Hunter, Abilene, Texas. One brother, Edwin Opitz and his wife Sue, Hinton, Oklahoma.

Bobbie Roberts, 47, Rocky, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, December 28th, 2017. She was born on August 11, 1970 at Sentinel, Oklahoma to James Henry and Kathy Kay( Callahan) Clements. Bobbie attended Sentinel Public Schools and graduated in 1989. She married Dale Lee Roberts on September 11, 1990 at Sentinel and made their home at Rocky. She was preceded in death by her mother Kathy Kay Callahan, her maternal grandparents Shorty and Ether Callahan, her paternal grandparent Loyd and Ida Clements, her grandparents-in-law: Dale and Bernice Wood, and Bennie and Bertie Roberts.

Darl Jene Hoefar

Darl Jene Hoefar, 77, passed away on December 21, 2017 in Eloy, Arizona. He was born on October 7, 1940 in Foss, Oklahoma to Carl and Opal Hoefar. Darl enjoyed golfing, He enjoyed talking to everyone- people knew him as "Trouble". Darl is survived by his wife: Virginia “Ginny” Hoefar; his children: Darla Armfield of Gilbert, AZ., Sherry Brown of Mesa, AZ., Cathy Atkisson of Henderson, NV. and James Hoefar of South Carolina; his sibling: Gary Hoefar of Oklahoma City, OK. and Toni Giblet of Cordell, OK.; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded by his parents: Carl and Opal Hoefar. Service will take place at a later time in Oklahoma. J. Warren Funeral Services, Cole & Maud, Gardens Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
