Florida Boy “Rides Along” With Cordell Police Officer

For the last couple of weeks Cordell Police Officer Deakon Wood has had a new partner while out on patrol.

“Flat Tyler” - also know as Tyler Carach - has been in Wood’s cruiser as he patrols Cordell.

It all began on March 27 when the Cordell Police Department received a letter from Tyler and his mother.

Washita County Releases Election Results

Final results in the April 4, 2017 Municipal Elections were released on Friday, April 7, 2017. In Cordell, voters elected the Marshal and two Council members. Brandon Rogers was elected Marshal for the City of Cordell with over an 80% majority. He received 444 votes, with challenger Chad Pool receiving 108 votes. In the Absentee voting by mail,

Rogers received 13 votes and Pool received four votes. The Early Voting tally was 74 for Rogers and 29 for Pool. Rogers received 357 votes on election day and Pool received 75.

The Cordell Beacon Bracket Buster

Rob Kuehne of Cordell won The Cordell Beacon Bracket Buster contest and came in earlier this week to collect his prize. He gave a lot of the credit to his son Raydon for the correct prediction of the teams in the final game and the eventual winner.

OBI Schedules Two Blood Drives In Washita County

Spring in Oklahoma means all kinds of weather, but most residents look forward to milder temperatures.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) is urging donors to take advantage of the improving weather to give blood and save the lives of fellow Oklahomans. On Thursday, April 13, 2017, Cordell Memorial Hospital will join OBI to host a blood drive at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cordell Council Amends Trash Ordinance

At the end of another marathon meeting, members of the Cordell City Council had approved minutes of the previous meeting, re-instated the previous ordinance concerning weeds and trash, approved a proposal from Mark Seibold for architectural services on the fire station, and slightly raised the rates to be charged for entrance to the Cordell swimming pool.

The largest single amount of time in the three and a quarter hour meeting, an hour and ten minutes, was spent in an Executive Session.

County Announces Storm Shelter Assistance Program

A county-wide effort has been launched to help assist Washita County residents with storm shelter rebates up to $2,000, thanks to a federal grant program administered by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management.

Washita County commissioners are teaming up with South Western Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) in the hope of submitting an application for funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

CHS Band Receives Superior Rating At State

The Cordell High School Band came rolling back into town Wednesday Night (March 29) with all manner of lights and sirens after receiving a Superior Rating At the State Contest,” said Band Director Steve Smith.

“The Cordell Police, Cordell EMS, Cordell Fire Department and Washita County Sheriff escorted us into town and down to the Courthouse,” Smith continued.

Rob Kuehne Wins Contest

An accurate prediction of the two teams in the NCAA Basketball Championship gave Rob Kuehne the win in The Cordell Beacon Bracket Buster Contest and “netted” him the $50 first place prize.

The Wisconsin defeat of Villanova in the first round broke most brackets during the first weekend, as did Oklahoma State’s defeat at the hands of Michigan.
