Pet Corner

By De De Young

I’ve had people ask me about submissive wetting. This is when the dog wets every time he becomes excited. It is usually a puppy behavior and not a pleasant problem to overcome.

You can help him out by getting him into different situations that will stimulate him into excitement. He will learn to control himself.

Savvy Senior

By Jim Miller

Dear Savvy Senior,

I’m worried about my 72-year-old mother who has been taking the opioid medication Vicodin for her hip and back pain for more than a year. I fear she’s becoming addicted to the drug but I don’t know what to do.

Concerned Daughter Dear Concerned,

The opioid epidemic is a national problem that is hitting people of all ages, including millions of older Americans. Here’s what you should know and do to help your mother.

Summer is just about to come to an end. We need to give our dog a good grooming for the end of shedding season.

Sometimes they will have a mat of hair on them and if we don’t get rid of it they will have it all winter.

A Word From The Superintendent

By Brad Overton

As we are in the middle of our second full week of school, everything is running smoothly. It is great to see the smiling faces of the students as well as their enthusiasm for learning. The smiling faces and enthusiasm begin somewhere. In my opinion these qualities start at home as well as with our teachers.

It is great to work with the many professional educators within the Cordell School District. Our teachers really work hard to see that the needs of our students are met. Students come to us with a variety of different needs, and our teachers always step up to the task. The love and support that our students receive is truly what makes Cordell Schools a very successful school district.

A scared or shy dog will be the first to get defensive. Never push them into biting. You are not going to help them by coddling. This ensures the dog something is wrong. Help your dog to face his fear. Separating him from the situation just prolongs it.

Facing his fears will make them go away. Being a strong leader for your dog will let him know “I will help you, I got this”. Avoiding or walking around the situation will not help him. Face the fear head on with your dog and let him draw his courage from you.

This will take away whatever fear he may have.

House Report

By State Representative Todd Russ

The House majority floor leader announced recently the appointment of co-leaders for House Republican Leadership Policy Working Groups. I will help lead the group on education support and reform.

I’m glad to have been selected for this task. I care a great deal about the education our children receive from pre-kindergarten all the way through CareerTech or college.

Savvy Senior

Dear Savvy Senior,

I’m interested in downsizing my smartphone wireless plan, and am looking for the best low cost options. I use my phone primarily for talking and texting, but also need some cellular data for checking my email and other functions when I’m away from WiFi. What can you tell me?

Senior Saver

Dear Saver,

There are several great lowcost deals I can recommend for older smartphone users who are looking to save some money by paring down their bloated cell phone plan. Here are three good options to consider.

If you are trying to teach your dog something new and he keeps laying down refusing to get up, he’s probably just confused. Dogs will lay down out of not knowing what to do.

Get him up and play ball, tag, or even take him for a walk, this will get his mind on something else. Then try again.

Savvy Senior

By Jim Miller

Dear Savvy Senior,

I’ve heard that there are free online search tools that can help people look for lost or forgotten money left behind by deceased relatives. Can you refer me? When my father passed away his financial affairs were in such a mess, I’m wondering if there was anything he left behind.
