Municipal Election Participation Less Than 35 Percent

Voter turnout in last week’s Cordell municipal election was less than 35 percent of registered voters, according to data provided by the Washita County Election Board.

According to voter records, there are 1,635 registered voters in Cordell’s two voting precincts. Of that number, just 556 cast ballots during the April 2, 2019, municipal elections, representing just 34.7 percent of registered voters.

Cordell’s precinct 750004 is the city’s largest precinct, with 1,234 registered voters. Of those voters, 412 participated in the municipal election this year. Voter participation within the precinct was slightly higher among registered Republicans, with 199 voting as compared to 179 registered Democrats, 32 independents, and two Libertarians.
