Maxine Janell Maddox 92, of Cloud Chief

Maxine Jannell Maddox was born on Aug. 21, 1926, to Edgar Lee and Sarah May (also known as Dick and Sally) Dodgion in Rush Springs. She grew up in Rush Springs. She also attended ACME and graduated from Rush Springs High School in 1946.

She married the love of her life, Caroll Maddox, of Cloud Chief, Sept. 1, 1947. She was 21 years old and he was 27. They lived in California, South Dakota, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Caroll was a geologist for Sinclair so they did a lot of traveling. They enjoyed camping, fishing, and prospecting.

Maxine and Caroll moved to Cloud Chief in 1967, where they started farming and raising cattle together. Maxine raised chickens and a beautiful vegetable garden. She also enjoyed tending to her peach trees. She canned and cooked good country meals, churned butter, shelled black eyed peas, made pickles and pickled beets, and harvested a great deal of vegetables such as okra, tomatoes, cucumbers and squash.

Maxine sewed many school clothes, Easter dresses, blankets, and pillows. She also worked in the yard and planted marigolds, moon flowers and many other flowers. She enjoyed watching birds, as well, and had a love for animals. You could often find kittens, cats and dogs around the farm. Maxine and Caroll were married for 56 years before he passed away on Sept. 27, 2003. She continued to live on the farm until she passed away on March 18, 2019, at the age of 92. She lived on the farm for 51 years.

Maxine is survived by her three children, Gary Maddox and wife Sondra Maddox, Carolyn Byers and husband Gordon Byers, and Jannell Maddox. She has three grandchildren: Lisa Holland and husband Daltin Holland, Andrea Page and husband Trey Page, and Curtis Maddox. Maxine also has four great-grandchildren: Paytin and Camber Holland and Eos and Quinn Page. She is also survived by a brother, RK Dodgion and wife Gene Dodgion, and nephew Keith Dodgion and wife Jerri Dodgion.

Maxine is preceded in death by husband Caroll Maddox; brother Paul Arthur Dodgion, son Gene Maddox; and niece Paula Gene Crawford.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Cloud Chief Cemetery.
