Von Dee Alford 87, of Dill City

28, 1931, in Dill City to Van and Verna Alford. He married Mildred Prickett Sept. 8, 1953. Together they had two daughters, Louan and Cathie.

Von attended Oklahoma A & M University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. Throughout undergraduate studies he was enrolled in Army ROTC and received leadership training laying the groundwork for him to become an officer in the Unisted States Army. He continued to relish watching his Cowboys play football and basketball in the years to follow.

After 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, Von retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He and his family then returned to Dill City, where he worked at the local cotton gin for several years. He began to simultaneously run rural postal routes and eventually became postmaster at the Rocky Post Office, where he alse earned retirement.

A kind and gentle man of few words, Von loved his family fiercely and will be missed by all who knew him.

Von was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Verna Alford; daughter Cathie; granddaughter Diana; and wife of 54 years, Mildred.

He is survied by his daughter Louan Alford of El Paso, Texas; granddaughter Deborah (Matt) Fulton of Oklahoma City; granddaughter Amanda (Paul) Pedregon of Marble Falls, Texas; granddaughter Sarah (Chad) Jongeling of Oklahoma City; granddaughter Shana Varnell of El Paso, Texas; grandson Harrison Varnell of El Paso, Texas; seven great-grandchildren - Madelyn, Zachary, Kiera, Ephram, Elijah, Maxson, and Landon; sister Kay Propps of Dill City; and her daughters Vanya Osborn and Renee Propps-Rodriguez and their respective families.

Von’s greatest joy in life was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. He loved them dearly, thought about them every day, and spoke of them frequently. He was a highly respected man by his family and by his community. His family is proud to be a part of his legacy.

Services for Von Dee Alford were held at Grace Church in Dill City at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019.
