It’s been a few years since I’ve covered high school sports - so long, in fact, that I’d almost forgotten how much fun it can be. As the basketball season winds to a close, I want to take this opportunity to offer my thanks for a good season.

I know, the season isn’t over yet. The Lady Devils are still playing - and with the way they’re playing they could make a very nice run - but Senior Night is behind us and the first round of the playoffs are in the history books, so it seems to me like an appropriate time to pen my thoughts about this season.

First and foremost, it’s been a lot of fun. Both teams have played hard and left it all out on the floor. But it was more than just good entertainment. These young student athletes shared with all of us some valuable life lessons.

Both teams have had their on-the-court struggles this year, nights when it didn’t matter how hard they played or what they tried to do, the ball just wouldn’t go in the basket. Sometimes life is like that, you can give it your all, do everything you’re supposed to do, and still find yourself falling short.
