Actions of Alert Students Credited With Avoiding Possible Tragedy

The actions of Cordell Junior High School students were credited with helping to avert a potential tragedy last week, according to superintendent Brad Overton.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, parents of students at Cordell Junior High were contacted via the telephone alert system and directed to a message posted on the Cordell Public Schools website.

“Today, Friday, Jan. 25, students reported to employees that a student planned to harm those at the the school in the coming months,” the statement read. “We want to thank those students for following the correct protocol in a potentially dangerous situation.
