Blue Devils Earn Second Place

The Cordell Blue Devils got off to a rough start at the Great Plains Bank Tri-County Tournament in Altus last Thursday, narrowly escaping a firstround defeat at the hands of Snyder, but went on to defeat Mangum in arguably their best-played game of the year to earn a spot in the championship round against Luther.

Cordell’s offense came out flat in the opening minutes of the game, going scoreless in the fist three minutes of play. Fortunately, their defense was solid and they held Snyder to just one bucket. Paxton Switzer broke the Cordell drought from the charity stripe, hitting two to tie the score up at 2-2. The Blue Devils woke up in the closing minutes of the first quarter and ran off seven quick points to take a 9-6 lead at the end of one.

The second quarter was another solid effort for Cordell’s boys. Koby Celsor came out strong, draining a quick three pointer and following it up with a steal leading to a fast-break layup to push Cordell to a 14-6 lead. Paxton Switzer added another two points after rebounding his own missed shot and putting it in. Celsor hit another three to end the quarter at 19-9.
