Tompkins Sworn Into Office; Goeringer Elected Board Chairman

Commissioner Steve Tompkins, who was sworn in last week by Judge Christopher Kelly, took his seat for the first time at the Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Washita County.

After approving the minutes from the Dec. 17, 2018, meeting, the board elected its officers for the new year. Leo Goeringer was elected as chairman, replacing retired commissioner Raydell Schneberger. Bart Gossen was elected vice chair.

The board dispensed with several housekeeping items, including the cancellation of an unpaid warrant to a county vendor, an agreement to operate as a Point of Distribution (POD) in conjunction with the Custer County Health Department in the event of an emergency, and the disposal of several pieces of surplus county equipment. The board also accepted the allocation of more than $20,000 in alcohol and vehicle tax collections for the various municipalities within Washita County.
