In their last game before the Christmas break, the Cordell Blue Devils lost a hardfought game to Okarche at the final buzzer, 73-72. Okarche’s Warriors started off with a strong defense, putting pressure on Cordell’s boys whenever they touched the ball. The Warriors’ fast hands caused a number of Cordell turnovers and resulting in an early 9-2 scoring gap for Okarche.

The Devils fought their way back, though, making better decisions with their passing and ball-handling, to cut the lead down to just three as the first quarter ended. Okarche opened the second period with the same aggressive defense, and produced the same results from the first quarter, a 9-2 run that propelled them to a 30-20 lead early in the second. But the Blue Devils didn’t give up. Cordell’s boys fought their way back into the game, tying it up late in the half with a layup by Kolby Rivera after a Drayton Maddox steal. Okarche came back with a quick three at the halftime buzzer to pull out to a 41-38 lead at the half.
