A standoff last week between an armed suspect and law enforcement in Clinton, which resulted in the lockdown and later evacuation of Southwest Elementary School, ended without injury.

Officers from the Clinton Police Department arrived at the residence of 56-year-old Ivan Troncoso at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, in order to serve an arrest warrant. Troncoso, who refused to open the door, communicated through the window with the officers and “threatened to harm the officers and himself,” according to Lt. Hammans of the Clinton Police Department.

Hammans said the officers backed away from the residence and began to negotiate with Troncoso for his surrender. They called for backup from both the Custer County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. OHP’s Tactical Team took command of the incident when they arrived on the scene, with Clinton PD and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office providing support.
