Massive Water Line Break Drains Tower, Possibly Contaminates Water Supply

About 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, a major water line break in the alley just west of the Cordell Police Station caused a disruption of service in the north half of Cordell and caused air to get in the lines, leading officials to call for a voluntary boil order to combat the possibility of contamination. According to Brian Holden, of the Cordell Water Department, the break was one of a series that have plagued the City over the last week.


“With the really cold weather we had, and then the warmup, the lines are just stressed to the max,” Holden said. “We had at least one line break every day for the previous seven days. Our lines are old and, with the other factors, we are having problems.”
