Convicted of the 2015 murder of 59-year-old Michael Beach of Cordell, Kathryn Lynn Hicks was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by District Judge Doug Haught.

The sentence was handed down Thursday, September 28, 2017, and conformed to the jury’s recommendation. On September 12, the jury had found Hicks guilty of First Degree Murder with Malice Aforethought.

Gregg Graves and Peter Astor of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System, lawyers for Hicks, had requested the judge sentence her to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Graves told the judge that Hicks, who is now 46 years old, would be 84 years old before she could be considered for parole if the lesser sentence was imposed.

Judge Haught rejected the request, stating, “I do fix your penalty at life without the possibility of parole.”
