Rosemary Spalding

Rosemary Spalding passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the age of 88. She was born in Cordell, Oklahoma, to Robert Gregory and Nora (Standerfer) Knie on August 8, 1929.

She graduated Cordell High School in 1947, and attended Southwestern State College where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education.

Rosemary taught school in Rocky. During that time, she met the love of her life, Charles R. (Bob) Spalding. They were married October 4, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Cordell.

In the early years of their marriage, Rosemary and Bob lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Oklahoma City, with Bob’s job at Standard Oil. They returned home to Cordell in 1966, where they raised their two sons.

Rosemary was a homemaker, but was also involved with Knie Spalding Insurance and Real Estate, and the family farming operation.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cordell, where she sang in the choir and taught the Primary Sunday School Class for many years.

Rosemary was also a member of the Alpha Nu chapter of the ESA Sorority in Cordell from the time of its inception.

As a young child Rosemary enjoyed riding and showing horses.

She traveled extensively with her mother to see and listen to Rosemary’s sister Roberta perform as a world-renowned opera singer.

She was also an avid reader.

She enjoyed attending her children’s activities and loved following her grandkids around to their various events. She absolutely loved spending time with friends and family.

Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gregory and Nora (Standerfer) Knie; one infant sister, Jimmie Jean Knie; and one sister, Roberta Joy Knie in March of 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; two sons, Charles Gregory Spalding and wife, Terry of Coppell, Texas, and Robert Wesley Spalding and wife, Kristy of Cordell; one brother-in-law, Bill Spalding of Maumelle, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Christopher Gregory and wife, Ashlee; Charles David and wife, Courtney; Jonathan Richard; William Daniel; Emily Marie; and Audrey Rose; and a host of dear family and friends.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Cordell, under the direction of Kiehn-Varner Funeral Home of Cordell.
