Elsie Marie Jones, a longtime resident of Cordell, Oklahoma, departed this life on Friday, September 1, 2017, at the age of 96. Elsie was born north of Rocky, Oklahoma, on the family farm, February 21, 1921, to James Oscar and Anna Blanche (Cook) Ridling. She attended school in Rocky. Elsie married Morgan Jones on November 27, 1937, in El Reno. Together they raised their family in Cordell and Dill City. She was a homemaker and her labor of love was raising her five children. Later in life she was employed at several places including Robertson Factories and Kellwood Co. Elsie enjoyed reading and watching television. She enjoyed keeping up with current events and politics and going to the coffee shop to visit with friends. Elsie greatly enjoyed spending time with her dear family, especially her grandchildren. Elsie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cordell. She taught Sunday School for many years in Cordell and in Dill City. She read her Bible regularly and often said that the 23rd Psalm helped her through the hardships of life. Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Jones in 1977; one daughter, Mary Ann Jones in 1956; two sons, Marshall Dwight Jones in 1977 and David Ray Jones in 2008; one sister, Ethel Mae Miller in 2011; and two sons-in-law, Johnny Terry and James Austin Fleming. She is survived by her son, James Jones and wife, Verla Beth of Cordell; daughter, Hazel Fleming of Burns Flat; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and a host of very dear family and friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Kiehn-Varner Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Cordell, Oklahoma, under the direction of Kiehn-Varner Funeral Home of Cordell, Oklahoma.
