The early life of Dale Mitchell

I first heard of Dale Mitchell as a small boy and over the years I’ve heard quite a bit about this remarkable man.

The Honorable Waldo Emerson was his brother-in-law and my mother-in-law, Zonelle Gregory Cox, was one of Dales schoolmate in Lone Tree school east of Cordell.

After graduating from high school in Cloud Chief, Dale attended the University of Oklahoma briefly before serving in World War II in the European theater.

Upon returning to OU, he set baseball records that still stand. His career batting average there was .467 and his batting average his senior year there was .507.
