House Report

Some premature assumptions by the State Department of Tourism have scared people into thinking some of our state parks are in imminent likelihood of closing.

Recently, a letter was sent to all state agencies by the House Appropriations and Budget Committee chair asking agencies to report what would happen to fiscal year 2018 budgets, if they had to endure up to a 14.5 percent cut in state appropriations.

The Department of Tourism responded it would close some state parks. This is a premature reaction by a state agency to a worst-case scenario.
