Mary Frances McClure was born on February 11, 1920, in Purcell, Oklahoma, to Word and Sarah Eliza Cromwell. She left this earth on June 22, 2016, at the age of 96 in Denver, Colorado. Mary was raised in Eastern Oklahoma and attended high school in Stillwater, and graduated from Oklahoma State A & M, in 1941, with a Master’s Degree in Home Economics. Mary began her travels as a beautiful young lady. It was pretty unusual for someone to travel alone, but Mary loved her adventures. She traveled from California to New York, but made her way back to Oklahoma and began working as a dietician at the Baptist Hospital in Muskogee. Mary met the love of her life, Charlie McClure, in March, 1946, as he was on an ambulance call at the hospital that night. It was love at first site, in less than three months they were married. Mary and Charlie married May 10, 1946. They moved to Sentinel, in April of 1954, with their family and continued with their caring funeral careers. They had one mission. “Make every family feel special”. They would say “We only serve our friends”. Which was everyone. Mary was one of the first women to be a licensed funeral director in Oklahoma. They served the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association for over 20 years, 16 of those as secretary and treasurer. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Lee McClure; daughter, Nancy Susan McClure; two brothers; and one sister-in-law. She is survived by daughter, Patty and husband, Rich; son, Bill and wife, Jammie; grandchildren, Mark and wife Sara; Scott; Will and friend Allison; Andy and fiancé Amber; Charlie; Gabe; Emmie and Ellie; great-grandchildren Emma, Charlie, Claire, Olivia, Lynnlee, Sawyer and Sam; and a host of dear family and friends. Services for Mary McClure were held Monday, June 27, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Sentinel, with interment at Sentinel Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Musick-Varner Funeral Home of Sentinel.
