Member owners of Kiwash Electric Cooperative of Cordell and Caddo Electric Cooperative of Binger made history this week as they successfully voted to join forces to create one new cooperative. CKenergy Electric Cooperative, Inc., will become effective January 1, 2016, as the Oklahoma’s first consolidated electric cooperative. On Monday, August 10, Kiwash members passed the Proposition for Consolidation by 83 percent. Three days earlier, Caddo members overwhelmingly approved the proposition, with 89.3% voting in favor. Consolidations present great opportunities for cost reduction by eliminating costly duplication of services as well as achieving savings from improved employee efficiencies and attrition and the new cooperative is one example.
