County Commissioners Vote To Continue Publishing Minutes At Sentinel Leader

In apparent retaliation against The Cordell Beacon for its news coverage of the Washita County Commissioner’s recent sales tax proposals, commissioners voted unanimously to suspend its long-held practice of publishing commission meeting minutes in rotation among all the county’s newspapers. These public notices are funded by taxpaper dollars. At the first regular meeting of 2014, held on January 6, Commissioner James Gee made the motion to amend the scheduled publication rotation to the Beacon this month, leaving publication of the minutes in the Sentinel Leader. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Raydell Schneberger, and Commissioner Leo Goeringer voted to approve.
