Funeral services for Darrell W. Carter, 61, Lawton, will be 12:30 p.m., Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Mallow officiating. Mr. Carter died Sunday, November 3 in Lawton. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. Mr. Carter was born November 9, 1951, at Cordell, Oklahoma, to Otis and Bertha Carter. He grew up in Cordell and was a 1970 graduate of Cordell High School. He married Sharon Miles on June 18, 1975, at Lawton. Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Army for six years as an air traffic controller. He later worked for Haliburton in Burns Flat and then the Fort Sill Fire Department until his retirement. He enjoyed watching his son compete in dirt bike races. He is survived by his wife, of the home; a son, Cody Carter, Lawton; five siblings, Ronald Carter, Wendell Carter, Randall Carter and Cynthia Walker, all of Cordell, and Lana Clayton, North Carolina; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
