Current Cordell Public Schools Superintendent Travis Victory will once again lead the Blue Devil family during the 2024-2025 school year.
More than fifty guests were present at the January 10th School Board meeting during which Victory’s contract for the upcoming year was expected to be discussed, some in favor of continuing his employment and some in favor of seeking a new Superintendent.
Due to the audience size, the first motion of the night was made in favor of moving the meeting into the cafeteria so that there would be seating for everyone in attendance.
The Board reconvened at 6:10 p.m. and proceeded with normal business, inlcuding approving a trip to Nashville for the Pride of Cordell Band for Summer 2024, declaring surplus property of old books, a/v equipment, and other out-of-date library media resources, and approving first year teacher and mentor stipends for Jacolby Mitchell, Kaylee Thain, Ashton Odom, Jalee Victory, and Darrin Taylor.
At 6:42 p.m., a motion was made to move to Executive Session in order to complete Superintendent Victory’s performance evaluation and to discuss a possible new contract.
Audience member Kathy Miller stood and attempted to address the Board, but President Jeff Jaronek explained that in order to speak during a meeting, a person must request to be included on the official agenda, although one can speak with individual Board members outside of the official meeting.
The Board remained in Executive Session for approximately three hours, after which they returned to Open Session and voted unanimously to approve the Superintendent’s contract for next school year.
