At the regular meeting of Cordell’s City Council Monday evening, four new council members, Mayor Phil Kliewer, and City Clerk Karla Ferrero took the oath of office and took their seats for their first meeting.
In his remarks, Mayor Kliewer said that he is thankful for the work of the previous administration and Interim City Administrator Vicki Hagerman with the ongoing vital improvements to our water infrastructure. He noted that many hours of hard work went into the securement of grants that have enabled the city to make these improvements.
The Mayor also shared his vision of the community working together to beautify and promote Cordell.
Several outgoing Council members and former Mayor Jerry Beech were recognized for their service with plaques commemorating their time spent serving Cordell. Of this group, Steve McLaughlin and Zetta Penner were in attendance to accept their awards in person.
One item of discussion during the meeting was the placement of a camera on the downtown water tower which could provide a live feed of the square in order to promote Cordell’s beautiful courthouse and downtown area. It was reported by Councilman Tadd Boone and Vicki Hagerman that News Channel 9 has a program to sponsor the installation of the camera, but their budget has been exhausted for the year. Hagerman stated that Cordell has been placed on the list for consideration in their next budget. Boone offered another possible alternative of using Weatherbug and Fox if News 9 doesn’t accept Cordell into their program.
The next Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 16th at 6 p.m. (No meeting on Monday during May.)
