Another successful year for cause close to Cordell teacher’s heart

Chanda Powers and her husband, Travis Powers, have successfully completed the now eighth year of participating in The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. With the generous donations and help from all Cordell school aged students and their familes, community residents, and Cactus Drilling employees, Powers was able to deliver 234 pairs of new pajamas to the City Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City. The Cordell Elementary Pajama Drive has now collected well over 1,000 pairs of new pajamas since it started in 2014.

The Pajama Program is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They specialize in promoting the importance of a comforting bedtime routine and healthy sleep for all children, especially those in need, to help them grow and thrive. Powers has stated before that this project is very near and dear to her and Travis’ heart. Powers has previously expressed that she reminds her students of all the good they are doing. She lets them know that their donation is making a difference to those in need.

“Hopefully the kids understand that it’s better to give than to receive. I do explain to them that these people are less fortunate and some do not have a home. It’s just the mothers and their children. And some of them have probably never had a new pair of pajamas.”
