During their meeting on Monday night, Cordell City Council set the municipal pool’s operating schedule as well as pool rules with a few changes from last year.
If all goes as planned Cordell’s swimming pool will open on May 26th with a free swim day. The standard hours will be from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, although there are several special events planned for the evenings such as Midnight Swim and Family Nights that will allow working parents to enjoy pool time with their children.
The pool will close from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on the days there are evening events planned to allow for a staff break.
This year, there will be no evening Water Walking but the pool will be open to water walkers on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon with free entry for adults only.
One major change to the pool’s rules is that children ages 8 and older can attend without an adult. Previously that age was 12 and older. Children ages 7 and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Also, in an effort to provide the safest possible environment for babies and toddlers, no children above the age of 5 are permitted to play in the baby pool. Children of qualifying age must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult in the baby pool area.
Elyse Chagollia will return this year as pool Manager. Mayor Phil Kliewer said “Elyse did a wonderful job of promoting our pool last year as well as keeping chemicals in balance and maintaining a fun and safe environment for families. We are pleased she is going to manage the pool again this summer.”
Lifeguards are still needed. Candidates must be 16 years of age or older and available to work throughout the entire season. Applications are available at the city office.
