Week of basketball brings loss and triumph for the Blue Devils

The return from Christmas break brought an exhilarating week of high school basketball, showcasing the skill and determination of the Cordell Blue Devils. The week kicked off on Tuesday with a game against the Sentinel Bulldogs, and the Cordell girls faced a tough challenge, falling to a 54-30 defeat. Birdie Brown led the scoring effort with 14 points, supported by Allee Brock's 4 points and McKinsey Gray and Peyton Garrison, who both contributed 3. Calliy Walker, Rylee Chagollia, and Kyndal Norris each added 2 points to the scoreboard.

The boys' game mirrored the girls' tough luck, ending in a 90-25 loss. Jordan Wood displayed resilience with 7 points, followed by Gage Miller's 6, Dason Ramsey and Scout Regier each contributing 5, and Kinser Todd with 2.

Thursday marked the commencement of the Western Equipment Arapaho Tournament, where the Cordell boys faced a formidable opponent in the Southwest Covenant Patriots, resulting in an 88-32 loss. Gage Miller showcased his scoring skill with 12 points, accompanied by Harlee Taylor's 8, Dason Ramsey's 5, Jordan Wood's 4, and Kinser Todd's 3. The girls encountered a challenging matchup against the Lookeba-Sickles Panthers, succumbing to a 58-22 defeat. Rylee Chagollia, Birdie Brown, and McKinsey Gray each contributed 5 points, while Peyton Garrison had 3, and Allee Brock and Mackinlee Brunker added 2 apiece.

Friday brought a thrilling turn of events as the girls clinched a hard-fought victory against the Snyder Cyclones, securing a 53-52 win. Birdie Brown emerged as a standout player, scoring an impressive 23 points, supported by McKinsey Gray's 16, Calliy Walker's 8, Rylee Chagollia's 4, and Peyton Garrison's 2. The boys, however, faced a close defeat against the Snyder Cyclones, with a final score of 34-28. Gage Miller led the scoring with 11 points, Dason Ramsey contributed 8, Jordan Wood with 6, Harlee Taylor with 2, and Scout Regier with 1.

Saturday witnessed a redemption story for the Cordell boys as they secured a 43-36 victory against the Lookeba-Sickles Panthers. Gage Miller once again asserted his scoring dominance with 23 points, Dason Ramsey contributed 13, Harlee Taylor had 3, and Scout Regier and Jordan Wood each added 2 points. The girls, unfortunately, faced a tough challenge against the Arapaho-Butler Indians, resulting in a 51-21 loss. Calliy Walker and Peyton Garrison led the scoring with 6 points each, followed by Rylee Chagollia and Mackinlee Brunker with 3, Allee Brock with 2, and Birdie Brown and McKinsey Gray with 1.
