The Lady Blue Devils traveled to Union City to face the Sterling Lady Tigers in the regional tournament. The Lady Blue Devils were able to keep pace with the Lady Tigers in the first, but were unable to keep the pace in the second quarter, and found themselves down by 11 at half. The third quarter was similar to the second quarter as the Lady Blue Devils were unable to get many buckets to fall, and were down 43-24 after 3 quarters. The Lady Blue Devils were able to put together their best quarter in the 4th, but the amount was insurmountable, and they fell short 54-40 to end the season. The Lady Blue Devils finished the season with a 2-22 record.
I spoke with both coaches to get their thoughts on how the year went.
Coach Trent said,”Had a very young group of girls this year. Started to figure things out later in the season and kinda started competing better later in the season. The future is bright for the Lady Blue Devils, we will miss our lone senior Tristan Riemer who was injured half of the year. She was a good leader and mentor to this young group of girls.”
Coach Blankenship said, “ Kids represented the community well on the floor. They played with all their heart and fought hard to make the name on the front of the jersey proud. We focused on developing a positive culture and returning several kids and look forward to success next year. Would like to thank the seniors again for their hard work, and commitment to the program over this year, and the foundation they have put down for this program.”
