The Great American Conference has announced that a record 1,269 student-athletes achieved Academic All-Conference honors, an increase of 293 from the prior high.
SWOSU had 86 student-athletes earn Academic All-Conference honors, including 13 apiece from Bulldog Baseball and Football and 11 from SWOSU Track & Field. Beyond that, SWOSU had nine players from Women’s Basketball, Soccer and Softball, a league-high eight from Men’s Golf, five each from Women’s Golf and Volleyball and two apiece from Men’s Basketball and Cross Country.
“The 2020-21 academic year presented our institutions, student-athletes and professors with unprecedented challenges,” GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said “For our student-athletes to achieve at a record-setting rate speaks to their impressive ability to excel in all circumstances.”
GAC football student-athletes garnered the most All-Academic selections, 233, followed by 168 from baseball, 134 in softball 113 from women’s track & field and 100 in volleyball.
For student-athletes to be recognized on the Academic All-Conference team, they must have enrolled as freshmen prior to the fall of 2020. In addition, their grade-point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system. The GPA shall be cumulative for the athlete’s entire collegiate career.
Local students honored included: Women’s Golf: Megan Brown (So.) of Cordell, Oklahoma, studying Accounting.
Men’s Golf: Heston Brown (Sr.) of Cordell ,Oklahoma, studying Business Entrepreneurship.
