Cordell eSports shines at OKSE Fall State Championship

Cordell’s eSports athletes delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s Oklahoma Scholastic Esports (OKSE) Fall State Championship Tournament, earning top statewide honors and highlighting the program’s growing success.

The biggest win of the weekend came from Roberto Aguilar, who captured the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate State Championship, securing Cordell’s first-ever OKSE state title in the game. His well-earned victory finished off a strong season of consistent competitive play.

Cordell qualified four players for the Fall State Tournament, three from the high school program and one from junior high:

•Roberto Aguilar – High School

•Hunter Hamlett – High School

•Collin Shaw – High School

•Wesson Shaw – Junior High Junior high competitor Wesson Shaw finished an impressive 25th out of 36 finalists, a remarkable accomplishment considering the small-school division included 167 middle school players statewide this season.

On the high school side, Cordell’s athletes entered the championship with exceptional statewide rankings among 253 players in their division:

•Roberto Aguilar – Ranked 5th

•Hunter Hamlett – Ranked 8th

•Collin Shaw – Ranked 20th Their commitment to practice, strategic game play, and strong sportsmanship has been key to the program’s success. Coach Katie Love expressed how proud she is of each competitor’s growth and determination throughout the season.

Cordell eSports competes in the OKSE league, which recently announced a new partnership with PlayVS and OSSAA beginning next year, an exciting development expected to bring even more competitive opportunities to student gamers across the state.
