Cordell Blue Devils fall to Sayre Eagles in football season opener

The Blue Devil football boys were unable to pull off a win in their season opener against the Sayre Eagles last Friday. The final score was Sayre 13, Cordell 6.

According to head coach Zane Trammell, the loss was a result of poor play execution, specifically on the offensive side of the ball.

“We were missing blocks or jumping off sides,” he said, “effort was good though.”

The boys plan to tighten up their game and strengthen their offence in preparation for their upcoming opponent, the Rush Springs Redskins.

“Last year the Rush Springs game was very similar to what we experienced tonight. With that in mind, we have to make some improvements and start putting points on the board,” said Trammell.

Despite the loss, Trammell commended a few players for their efforts.

“Offensively, Blaine Larsen had a couple good runs, JD Maddox had a couple of really good catches, Danny

Corbin did well as our utility guy, and Kameron Rivera came in and did a good job for us too.” He said, “Louis Lloyd had a few tackles for loss, Rivera had a big pick in the endzone for us, and Maddox also did a good job sealing the edges as an outside backer.”

The Cordell Blue Devils will play their next game at home against the Rush Springs Redskins; kickoff will be at 7:00 pm. The Cordell Cheer team encourages everyone to wear luau themed garb to this game to show your spirit while supporting our Blue Devil Boys.
