The Lady Blue Devils and Blue Devils were scheduled to travel to Mangum on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, but that game was canceled due to inclement weather. This game will now be played on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
On Friday, January 27, the Lady Blue Devils hosted the Lady Eagles from Burns Flat-Dill City. The game as a whole got off to a slow start with neither team able to get much going offensively. A late push by the Lady Eagles saw their lead grow to 7-1 after the first quarter. The Lady Blue Devils were able to find a little more offense in the second quarter, but found themselves down 23-8 at the half. Coming out of the half the Lady Blue Devils were able to use some of the halftime adjustments, and were able to outscore the Lady Eagles 6-5 in the third quarter. Unfortunately the Lady Eagles were able to get back on track in the fourth quarter, and the hole the Lady Blue Devils found themselves in was just too much to climb out of. The Lady Blue Devils fell 39-22.
The Blue Devils also hosted the Eagles of Burns Flat-Dill City on Friday, January 27. It was a tightly contested game throughout the night, as the teams were knotted at 10 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was back and forth with both teams trading leads. The Blue Devils took an 18-12 lead with 4:00 minutes left in the second quarter, but the Eagles 12-2 run saw that lead disappear and the Blue Devils found themselves down 24-20 at half. The teeter totter action continued into the third quarter with the Blue Devils taking a one point lead with five seconds left in the third, but a long three pointer to end the quarter found the Blue Devils down two. The Eagles came out firing in the fourth and were able to extend the lead to 10. The Blue Devils were able to stop the run, but were not able to gain any more ground on the Eagles, and fell short 59-46.
Coach Trent said “The girls continue to get better, and are looking forward to their District match-up in the coming weeks.”
Coach Blankenship said “The boys fought hard once again, and are hoping it will all come together at the right time.”
The Lady Blue Devils and Blue Devils learned their playoff draw this week, both teams will be traveling to Arapaho-Butler to take on Union City on Friday, February 10, 2023, times for those games are to be announced (TBA) at a later date.
