Summer League has started for the Cordell 8U and 12U softball teams. The season began full swing with the 8U girls winning their first two games Thursday night.
The first game had the girls taking on the Weatherford Firecrackers. The Lady Devils held off the Firecrackers for a 7-6 win!
The second game of the night had Cordell meeting up with Hydro. The girls wasted little time and came out swinging. The final score was Cordell 9 Hydro 0.
The wins on Thursday night put the girls in the semifinals Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Blue Devils played the Weatherford Wildcats and lost a close one 7-6. That put the girls up against the Arapaho Lady Indians. The loss to Arapaho gave our girls 3rd place.
We have a group of girls that played with us last year and we had a mix of new girls come in. We are proud of their hard work and their drive to get better. We competed and most of all they had fun!
The Preseason Tournament for the 12U softball girls began Saturday afternoon after being rained out for Thursday and Friday’s games.
In the first game, the girls came out on fire and beat Weatherford 9-0. That moved them into the quarterfinal game.
We met up with the Clinton Lady Reds. Anytime in the past when we have met up, both teams give each other all they have to give. After a hard-fought back-and-forth game, The Lady Reds took the first game 4-3.
The second game of the afternoon matched the girls back up with Weatherford. Coming into the game short-handed and only having eight girls, The Lady Blue Devils stepped up and thumped Weatherford again 8-1.
That win put us back in the finals to meet up with the Lady Reds again. Once again, it was another battle that went to extra innings. This time we were able to wake the bats up and win 7-4. That put us in the if necessary game against the Lady Reds. Once again it went down to the wire and the Reds won it with a walk-off single.
We are proud of the fight our girls have and our play this weekend has given us an idea of what we need to work on to get better.
We have a really good group of girls that have been together since most of them were in T-Ball and have had lots of success together. They will work hard and do their best each and every game. If you have been out to watch this team, you are missing out!
