Troy Hubert Palmer

Aug. 31, 1943– Sept. 11, 2025

Troy Hubert Palmer, age 82, of Cordell, OK went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 11, 2025 after battling several health issues. Troy was born in Borger, TX on August 31, 1943.

Troy is survived and missed by his loving wife Barbara Dawson Palmer of 62 years; his only child Scott Palmer and wife Lanna of Cordell, Ok; three grandchildren Jordan Palmer (38), Kennedy Palmer (23), Grayson Palmer (20) and Sage (1) his only great grandchild. His memory lives on with his brother Coyt Palmer, sister Julia Palmer and brother-in-law Danny Dawson.

Troy is preceded in death by his parents Hubert Palmer and Mary (Hulce) Palmer, sisters Mona Dees and Mary Shelton, and brother Kelly Palmer. He is also preceded in death by his wife’s parents Virgil Dawson and Pauline (Brown) Dawson and sister- in-law Kay Dawson.

He was born and raised in Borger, TX where he eventually met his wife, Barbara and married in 1963. Their son Scott was also born in Borger, TX in 1967.

Troy was an assistant Pastor in Borger while leading a singing group called the Ambassadors Twelve. The family later moved to Pampa, TX where they resided for 12 years. Troy and Barbara moved to Odessa, TX in 1985 where they lived until 2008 before relocating to Cordell, Ok.

Troy had a very fulfilling career in the oil field, starting as a roustabout and working his way up to District Forman before retiring. Most of his career was spent with Kerr McGee Corporation for 32 years, then Devon Energy for seven years before retiring at age 62.

Troy was heavily involved in the Royal Rangers in Pampa, Odessa and Cordell as a Commander and Section Chief where he enjoyed mentoring boys and teaching them the joys of fishing and camping in a Christian environment.

He loved fishing and camping and took up leather work after retiring. He enjoyed target practice with his many pistols and rifles and teaching his grandchildren how to shoot.

He was an avid reader of the Bible and loved reading old western books by Louis L’Amour. He enjoyed watching detective shows but Blue Bloods became his favorite. He enjoyed listening to the old western singing group. Sons of the Pioneers. One of his favorite songs was Cool Water which was played as he was taken to the funeral home.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we were to have him as a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather. He was always ready and willing to help regardless of the circumstances. He faithfully cared for his wife for many years before she had to move to a nursing home. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
