Sharon Ruth Perkey (Bristol) passed away May 11, 2026, in Elk City, Oklahoma, at the age of 73 years, with her loving son by her side. She was born October 12, 1952, to James and Ruth Bristol in Anchorage, Alaska, where she was raised until the family relocated to Del Rio, Texas, before finally settling in Dill City, Oklahoma. After graduating from Dill City High School in May 1970, Sharon went on to earn her master’s degree in education.
Sharon dedicated her life to teaching and making a difference in the lives of countless students throughout her long career in education. She held many positions over the years, including working at the Steakhouse Café in Dill City, Star Spencer Junior High, Will Rogers Elementary in Burns Flat, Canute Elementary, and spending many summers at Camp Arrowhead in Texas. Her passion for education and reading led her to become a member of the Oklahoma Reading Association. She was also a proud member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
Above all else, Sharon loved Jesus, her church, and her family. She was known for her kind heart, quick humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. She treasured her friendships and brought joy and laughter wherever she went.
Nothing brought Sharon greater happiness or pride than her children and grandchildren. Supporting them in every stage of life was her greatest joy. Whether attending basketball, softball, and baseball games, spending time together, or simply being present for the people she loved most, her family was always the center of her world.
In her free time, Sharon enjoyed reading, listening to music, and cheering on her children and grandchildren in all their hobbies and activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Bristol, and her grandparents, Freeman and Ada Pentz.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Amanda Newnam and partner, Benji Scudder, of Moore, Oklahoma; her son, David Perkey, of Elk City, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Kristie Perkey, of Elk City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Korbin and wife Ailene of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kassidy Perkey of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kyler Perkey of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kenlee Perkey of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kadin Muse of Moore, Oklahoma, and Avery Newnam of Moore, Oklahoma; siblings, James Bristol and wife Diane of Rocky, Oklahoma, Dale Bristol of Dill City, Oklahoma, and Karen Evans of Denver, Colorado; along with many beloved extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation was held at Whinery Funeral Service and Cremation Center in Elk City on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM. Services were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Whinery Funeral Service.
