GREG CHANDLER, CHAIRMAN BART GOSSEN, VICE-CHAIRMAN DAVID GRAY, MEMBER KRISTEN DOWELL, COUNTY CLERK Notice posted 02/13/2026 A Special Meeting of the Washita County Commissioners was held on February 19, 2026 with Chairman Chandler calling the meeting to order. This meeting was held in conjunction with the Washita County Excise Board.
Chairman Chandler asked Kristen Dowell, County Clerk, for roll call. Roll call was answered by Gossen, present; Gray, present; Chandler, present.
Prayer was led by Excise Board Vice-Chairman Musick. The Board relocated to the third floor to the Courtroom for the motion docket for case no. CV-2025-65: Washita County Assessor (Plaintiff) v. Washita County Commissioners and Washita County Excise Board (Defendants). Attorney Mike Fields and Denise Lawson were present to represent the boards. Judge Dirickson stated that the purpose on this day was for the court to hear arguments from counsel on the Motion to Dismiss filed by the defendants. Mr. Fields and the attorney for the Assessor, Mr. Shephard were acknowledged for arguments and each presented theirs. Judge Dirickson stated it is the duty of the court to decide if the petition filed by the plaintiff has a legal basis to move forward and to determine if the law allows this type of claim. Based on that, Judge Dirickson denied the Motion to Dismiss. Both attorneys will discuss and agree on a schedule for a hearing on this matter at a later date. No action was taken.
The Board discussed the next steps with their attorneys. Upon receipt of the proposed schedule from the Plaintiff ’s attorney, Mr. Fields will reach out to inform the boards of the schedule.
