Vela Honored with Framed Jersey on Senior Night

Senior Night is always a meaningful occasion, but this year carried special significance as Jacob Vela was honored with his enclosed and framed #14 basketball jersey, surrounded by photos capturing moments from his high school career. His coaches, Jakob Moles and JJ Williams, presented the sentimental gift.

For Head Coach Williams, the moment meant more than just recognizing another senior athlete.

“For me as a coach, Senior Night is always special, but seeing Jacob receive his jersey meant a little more because of the work he has put in when no one was watching,” Coach Williams said. “He’s been the kind of player every coach hopes for, dependable, coachable, and team-first.”

While fans have watched Vela compete on game nights, Coach Williams emphasized that his true impact often happens behind the scenes.

“What people see on game night is just a small part of who he is,” Williams said. “The leadership in the locker room, the encouragement to younger players, the willingness to do the little things, that’s what defines his career here.”

Over the years, Vela has grown not only as a player but as a leader and role model within the program.

“Getting to know him and watch him grow into the young man he is today has been a privilege,” Williams added. “That jersey represents not just the games he’s played, but the standard he helped set for our program.”
