Voters in the Cordell School District voted 190 to 76 last Tuesday in favor of a proposed two-year bond that will fund needed upgrades and renovations at the campus. There is no projected tax increase associated with the bond.
Key projects will include a secure vestibule at the elementary school which will allow guests to enter a controlled space where they can be assisted by staff before gaining access to the school, enhancing student safety. Also included at the elementary building will be several new offices and learning spaces.
The elementary will also receive a playground upgrade that will allow better accessibility for all students through updated play structures and a turf surface that will allow easier wheelchair movement.
At the high school, restrooms will be completely renovated and will be brought up to ADA accessibility standards.
District-wide technology upgrades will replace aging and outdated technology which will better support instructional needs, operational efficiency, and digital learning.
Cordell Public Schools Superintendent Sam Belcher made the following statement following the passage of the proposal: “On behalf of Cordell Public Schools, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the members of our community for taking the time to vote and for approving the recent $1.37 million bond issue. The passage of this bond reflects the strong partnership between our school district and the community we proudly serve. Your support demonstrates a shared commitment to moving Cordell Public Schools forward and ensuring that our students and staff have access to safe, secure, and improved learning environments.”
Belcher continued to say “The approved funds will allow us to enhance security measures and make much-needed improvements to our school facilities. These upgrades will directly benefit our students by providing a safer and more modern educational setting— one that supports both academic success and overall well-being. We deeply appreciate the trust you have placed in us. Together, we will continue working to strengthen our schools and create opportunities for every student to thrive.”
In closing, Belcher said “Thank you for investing in the future of our children and our community.”
