Cordell Schools’ bond proposal goes to vote on February 10th

Voters in the Cordell School District will have an opportunity to vote on a proposed bond that, if approved by voters, would provide $1.37 million in funding to support facility, safety, playground, and technology improvements across the district.

The bond would be for a two-year term and is proposed at no projected tax increase to Cordell School District taxpayers.

The purpose of the bond is to address key needs that enhance student safety, improve learning environments, and modernize district infrastructure. Below is a more in-depth overview of the projects included in the bond proposal.

Elementary School Secure Vestibule

The bond would fund the construction of a new, enhanced secure entry at Cordell Elementary School. The secure vestibule would allow guests to enter a controlled entry space where they can be assisted by staff before gaining access to the school. This improvement is designed to increase safety for students and staff. The project would also include the addition of a new secretary office, a new principal office, and new classroom areas to better support daily operations and instructional needs.

High School Restroom Renovations

Restroom renovations at Cordell High School would include a complete renovation of the students’ boys’ and girls’ restrooms, as well as the men’s and women’s faculty restrooms. Updates would include new sinks, stalls, toilets, urinals, light fixtures, ceiling tiles, flooring, and paint. All restrooms would be brought up to ADA accessibility standards, including updated doorways, accessible stalls, and sinks to better serve all students, staff, and visitors.

Elementary Playground Upgrade

The bond would provide funding for an upgrade to the elementary playground to support a safe, engaging, and inclusive outdoor environment for students. New playground equipment would meet current ASTM safety standards and ADA accessibility requirements, helping reduce the risk of injury and promote inclusive play. Planned improvements include two new play structures located on a turf surface to improve accessibility, new swings with multiple handicap-accessible swing options, and new basketball and soccer goals.

District-wide Technology Upgrades

District-wide technology improvements would include the purchase of a new enhanced server and new student devices. These upgrades are intended to replace aging and outdated technology currently in use and to support instructional needs, operational efficiency, and digital learning across the district.
