Cordell is kicking off the holiday season in true small-town style as the Cordell Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Christmas on the Square celebration on Thursday, December 4, from 5–7 p.m. The festivities will take place on South Market Street in front of the historic Washita Theater and will feature an evening filled with lights, community spirit, and nostalgic Christmas charm.
This year’s event brings back classic favorites along with some exciting new additions. One of the highlights will be the Christmas Baking Contest, inviting local bakers to showcase their best holiday treats, including cookies, pies, candies, and cakes. Entries may be dropped off at the Washita Theater between 5–6 p.m., and each submission must include a recipe card. Winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m. in front of the theater.
Local vendors will fill the street with handmade goods, sweet treats, hot food, toys, and festive favorites. A vendor selling live Christmas trees will also be on-site for families wanting to take home a fresh tree. Kids can enjoy entertainment throughout the evening, including a face painter, jump houses, and something fun inside the Washita Theater.
At 5 pm, the anticipation will build for the Lighted Christmas Parade, bringing sparkling floats, music, and plenty of holiday cheer through downtown Cordell. Parade entries are still being accepted, and community members are encouraged to sign up by emailing cordellokevents@gmail.com.
The evening will end with giveaways from 6:30–7 p.m., adding an extra dash of excitement to an already festive night.
Chamber Executive Director Sarah Lau shared her hopes for the celebration, saying, “Come out and remember how Christmas once was in Cordell, shopping, eating, and having some fun with our vintage Christmas on the Square.”
