Blue Devils cash in at basketball Meet the Players event

Cordell’s basketball season tipped off in style Friday night as fans packed the gym for the annual Meet the Players event, and let’s just say, the only thing hotter than the Mike’s Meats’ pulled pork sandwiches was the shooting performance on the court.

The evening began at 5:00 p.m. with the parent-organized dinner, where supporters lined up for a plate piled high with pulled pork, chips, cookies, and a drink. By 6:00 p.m., the crowd was fueled, fired up, and ready for the main event.

The Blue Devil fans filled the stands, making their presence loud and proud as they cheered on both the boys and girls teams. The gym buzzed with excitement, laughter, and that unmistakable Blue Devil spirit.

Assistant Girls Coach Kendi Spradlin and Head Girls Coach Colby Love took to social media afterward to share their appreciation, writing: “Thank you to everyone who made Meet the Players possible Friday night. Parents, you were awesome for organizing and running the dinner. To everyone who donated to our program (parents, community members, and local businesses), thank you. We couldn’t do what we do without your support. To everyone who came out to meet and support our basketball team, we appreciate you. Your energy and support mean a lot to us. Lastly, thank you to our players for shooting the ball well Friday night. That sure helps!!”

Head Boys Coach John Williams echoed the gratitude, sharing that the boys had raised just over $5,000.00, with the final number pending as additional donations were expected to roll in this week.

“Extremely grateful for all those who attended and helped out both programs. [I] felt it was a successful event for all involved, and all the boys, players, and coaches had a fun time. Thank you to everyone who attended the event and for all their support for these amazing student-athletes.”

The girls’ program also had a successful evening, raising $6,130.00 for the Cordell Lady Blue Devil Basketball program.

Coach Love shared on the night’s impact, stating, “I thought the event was a great night for our girls basketball program and for our community. The atmosphere in the gym was awesome from start to finish. Our girls represented themselves and our school really well, and it meant a lot to see so many families, alumni, community members, and local businesses come out to support us. Cordell always shows up for our kids, and nights like this prove it.

Thank you to everyone who donated money to the basketball programs, volunteered, helped serve dinner, or just came out to cheer. Every bit of support helps our athletes, and I appreciate it more than I can say.”

Fans were treated to energetic introductions, an icebreaking scrimmage, and shooting performances that kept the crowd roaring. The players seemed to feed off the cheers, putting on a show that made it clear this season is one you don’t want to miss.

Exciting. Entertaining. And overflowing with community support.

Cordell basketball isn’t just ready for the season; they’re already winning.
