Dill Work and Play September meeting report

The Dill Work and Play OHCE met September 16th, 2025 at 2:30 in the Dill City Community Center. Jane Shull called the meeting to order with a welcome and a bookmark gift to each member. Anna Prickett led the flag salute and the song “I’m an Old Cow Hand.”

Lowayne Piercey called roll with six answering the question, “Do you cook in cast iron skillets?” There were 5 yes answers and 1 no, along with ideas and discussions. Lowayne read the minutes from the August meeting and they were approved.

Jane gave a Thought of the Day. Anna gave the Treasurer’s report. Jane led business discussion: Old business was Fair reports. All Dill Work and Play members worked and participated in the Washita County Fair. The Fair went very well and we all had fun. All three County clubs received a complete exhibit. Anna Bingham, Wilma Gathright, Jane and Lowayne all won “Grand Champion” on their Fair entries. Many ribbons were won and all helped with the County OHCE Auction. The members wish to thank all who brought items and the money will go to county projects.

New business: A planning meeting will be held for our District meeting in 2026 on Sept. 25th. Jane and Lowayne plan on attending.

The Bunco party given by Cordell Modern Homemakers will be held September 29th beginning at 5:30 and will be at the County Community Center. Several members plan to attend.

There will be a sewing day on October 1st and 2nd from 9-3 at the OSU office. Lunch will be served October 1st and if we don’t finish the project we will work on October 2nd and we will bring potluck lunch. Anyone wishing to help is welcome. We will be making personal bags to place in the backpacks that will be given to foster children. Dill Work and Play will also furnish a brush and comb for the bag. Each OHCE Club will bring something personal.

Amber Hall will host a Barn Quilt Workshop November 13th from 9:30 til 3:00 with a cost of $25 per person in the OSU conference room in Cordell. Call in by Nov. 5th if you wish to join.

The State OHCE for 2026 are offering several projects: Mind Games, Healthy Living, Getting Rid of Old Medicine, Cultural Enrichment- History Books.

Lowayne gave a report on Washita Conty Farm Bureau Barnyard Olympics. There were 26 young people who took part in the games and lots of fun was had by all. The event was held at the County Fair on August 21st.

The Washita County 4-H is taking off with the fair with young people as well as leaders signing up for the 2025-2026 year. A volunteer rules review and planning meeting was held September 15th.

Lowayne gave the lesson on cooking with cast iron skillets. Cultural Arts were shown by Jane. They were books of history and stories of the Prickett family, Burns Flat Baptist Church, and Dill City History. They were fun to look at and read some of the stories.

Lowayne told about the Piercey trip to Utah on September 9th thru the 14th. Jimmy and Lowayne were taken on a wonderful vacation by their daughter Sabrina and son Gary.

The OHCE cookbook for a fundraiser is half finished and each club received books to sell. They will be $10 and all club members should have books to sell. Thank you for helping. Lowayne served apricot cobbler prepared in an iron skillet and drinks.

The meeting was dismissed with the Lord’s Prayer.
