Samuel ‘Sam’ Ryan

Sam Ryan was born on April 20, 1954 to Joe and Twila Ryan at Thomas, OK.

He passed away in the early morning hours of February 10, 2025 at Cordell Memorial Hospital. He was 70 years, 9 months and 21 days old.

Sam moved with his family to Okeene, OK while in grade school. He graduated from Okeene High School in 1972.

He was an outstanding 3 sport athlete and attended Southwestern State University on an athletic scholarship. Sam graduated from SWOSU in 1977 with a major in secondary education, minor in history, and an elementary education certification. He taught 6th grade and coached elementary sports at Burns Flat Schools from 1977 to 1983.

He joined his father- in-law’s farming operation in the Port area and established Ryan’s Contract Pumping in 1983. He continued both occupations until his death.

He married Druanne Tompkins on May 18, 1974, at the First Baptist Church in Sentinel, OK. They had two beautiful daughters, Barri Hope and Starr Faith.

Sam was preceded in death by his daughter, Barri Hope Ryan, his parents, Joe and Twila Ryan, his brother, Don Ryan, his in-laws, Louis and Dosia Tompkins, and brother-in-law, Barry Tompkins.

He is survived by his wife, Druanne, of the home in rural Sentinel, and daughter Starr Ryan of the Port community. His brother, Terry Ryan and family of Sanger, TX, and sister-in-law, Cheryl Ryan and family of Mustang, OK. and all of Druanne’s cousins and families.
