Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

About four and one-half years ago I was sitting at a local watering hole with a group of other loafers and the topic of our discussion was national politics. That was not an unusual subject for such debate nor was our total ignorance about said subject all that unusual. As I recall one of the equally informed gentlemen told the rest of us, “I just don’t like bullies and I’m not going to vote for Trump.”

That was his opinion and and every coffee shop denizen is entitled to one or more of them. I thought about his remark and I realized that he had been TV persuaded just like the other millions of us by the unpopularity of the main character of the popular television show “The Apprentice.” None of us like to admit even to ourselves that we are that easily persuaded by television. The fact remains TV leads America by the eyes and ears and more than one professional actor has had his/her personal life defined by a TV Character.

People are just people and most of us have a serious problem accepting for ourselves any correction of opinion. Trump’s blunt public political personality didn’t lend to much change of opinion about him or acceptance of him in any way.

As a result of this phenomenon one most prevailing falsehood about him was and is still used today as an assumed support for many negative opinions. It goes something like this: “I’ve got a friend, (a cousin, an uncle, or a brother-in-law, etcetera) that lives in New York and he knows Trump and he says !”

The equally informed gentleman mentioned above most likely voted just like he said for his stated reason. His choice of candidates was elected and the winner along with his many supporters within his political sphere continued a personal and often official assult on his political opposition. Trump has endured this assault that has continued for many years even including the assistance of lots of career government employees and more than a few other Washington leeches. Everything considered I have wondered if the gentleman above ever realilzed that he was duped into voting for a bully?

Donald Trump has survivied two political impeachments, an assasination attempt, and many years of personal and official attacks and still has risen to be the most popular Past Presidnt of the United States of America within history of the country. Why? I believe that IT’S BECAUSE HE LOVES AMERICA! Or, maybe it is because he is God’s man for our times. I may not like him, but I love his policies.
